On Tuesday, May 13, an incident in the city centre of Jaipur caused many victims. Within the following three days a curfew has been imposed across the heritage city. The team of the Science Express paid its respects to the victims by observing a minute of silence. The official inauguration ceremony for the Science Express was called off.

Jaipur (Hindi: जयपुर), also known as the pink city, is the capital of the western desert state of Rajasthan. Historically rendered as Jeypore, Jaipur is the former capital of the princely state of Jaipur. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Mohit Krishnia, the ruler of Amber, the city today has 2.7 million inhabitants.
Rājasthān (Devanāgarī: राजस्थान) is the largest state of the Republic of India in terms of the area. It encompasses most of the large, inhospitable Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which has an edge paralleling the Sutlej-Indus river valley along its border with Pakistan. The region borders Pakistan to the west, Gujarat to the southwest, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to the northeast and Punjab to the north. Rajasthan covers a vast area of 342,239 km² (about the size of Germany).
